Our Service
We reserve your rental car, and organize the pick-up at the car rental station. If necessary we assist you white picking up the car. Of course, we give you helpful information to plan your trip.
Always included in the price: unlimited kilometers, second driver, insurance (see price list), free pickup or return in Alajuela, San José, Jacó, Quepos, Manuel Antonio, Guapiles, Siquirres, Fortuna, Liberia or at the northern beaches of Nicoya Peninsula
If you rent a 4-wheel drive, you can get a cellphone to use for free (calls will be charched). Need to be ordered in advance – deposit necessary.
You can rent a GPS.
We only work with reliable companies. All cars have AC/RTB (several may have CD player) and are normally not older than three years.

Rental Cars – Cheaper Directly in Costa Rica
The pictures refer to the respective car categories. Ordered vehicles can be substituted by a vehicle of equal value (or similar one) or a better category.
The information concerning possible number of passengers (PAX) is taken from experience and refers to adults with a normal amount of luggage.
Prices are indicated in USD.
Please note that we list all rates including unlimited kilometers, second driver, the respective insurance policy and all taxes. There will be no extra-costs for you as it is usual with other suppliers.
Benefit of basic insurance CDW:
Your retention is US-$ 750.- and you pay 20% of your self-inflicted damages on thirs persons cars. Tires are not assured
Benefit of comprehensive insurance:
No retention on your own car, no participacion of your self-inflicted damages on thirs persons cars.

Cell phones are no longer for rent, but we organise a prepaid SIM-Card for you (please declare the type of cellphone)

Car – Insurance
CDW – Basic Insurance
Obligatory. Covers damages to your vehicle and damages to third parties up to 80% of the total amount. There is a deductible on your vehicle of USD 750.00 for all makes. In addition, the person causing the accident must pay for 20% of the damage to third parties. A safety deposit of USD 750.00 is blocked on your credit card in addition to the rental fee when you pick up the car.
Supplemental Insurance with Zero Deductible
Optional. Covers damages to your vehicle and damages to third parties up to 80% of the total amount. No deductible for your own vehicle. Tires and windows are also insured. The person causing the accident must pay for 20% of the damage to third parties. A safety deposit of USD 750.00 is blocked on your credit card in addition to the rental fee when you pick up the car.
Third Party Property Damage Insurance
Optional. This insurance is always included in the price of the Full Cover insurance (not in Basic Insurance).
Restrictions on Supplemental Insurance with Zero Deductible:
- Loss of keys, tools, detachable radio front panel.
- Accidents or damages caused to the car due to careless driving, traffic infractions, driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, along areas inaccessible to cars (rivers, beaches, swamps, or similar places); the car being driven by someone who is not authorized under the Rental.
- Contract terms; it does not cover assistance or travel expenses in case of damaged tires, lost keys, discharged batteries for leaving the lights on, car change in case of accident, towing or rescue expenses.
- Leaving the car in unsafe conditions, in lonely places that facilitate car THEFT.
- ZERO DEDUCTIBLE does not cover 20% of damages caused to other people’s property in case the customer has an at-fault accident.
Credit Card Insurance
Auto Rental CDW Programs offered by major card issuers are accepted in Mapache Rent a Car.
The amount of insurance coverage has to be mentioned.

Please note the following for car rentals:
You must be at least 21 years old
You must be at least 25 years old to conclude a comprehensive insurance policy.
Valid driver’s license (an international driver’s license is not required)
Passport
Credit card with sufficient coverage
All reservations must be confirmed by CREDIT CARD CHARGE – AUTHORIZATION FORM.
In Conclusion
A rental period always ends after a 24-hour period. You have two hours leeway at the return. After this time, USD 10.00 per hour is charged additionally. If you return the vehicle more than three hours late, an additional day is charged.
If you return the car at a site other than those cited in the “Services”, you must pay a fee in line with the offer.
You pay for the car rental and all other services with a credit card when you return the vehicle. On request, we can invoice you in advance.
Cancellation conditions
No show or cancellation within 48 hours of arrival date: 100%
Cancellation within 2 to 7 days prior to arrival: 50%
No charges if reservation is cancelled 8 or more days prior to arrival date.
Cancellation has to be done in written form (mail or fax).
